Atorkor Development Foundation (ADF) is a community-based charity
organization. It was formed in October 2001 and is registered
in Ghana as a charity organization.
ADF's vision is to transform Atorkor village from a deprived village into a self-sustaining one with basic anemities - a health center,
clean drinking water for all, well-equipped schools, a vocational center, electricity, and affordable communication facilities for all.
About Atorkor Village
Atorkor is a village in the Keta District of Ghana. Atorkor is located in the south-eastern part of Ghana on the Atlantic Coast with a
beautiful sandy beach. Atorkor is blessed with lovely natural beaches, a calm and peaceful life, good roads linking to Accra and surrounding
towns and villages, a wide variety of landscapes, the lagoon, and some of the warmest and friendliest people in all of Africa. It is a safe,
enchanting village and a wonderful place to visit. It has a population of about 6000 people.
Economic Situation
There is no major economic activity in the village. The main occupation of the village is fishing, for which the inhabitants depend on the sea
and the lagoon for sources of income.
Fishing in Atorkor has declined considerably due to the following reasons:

Depleting stocks of fish in the immediate vicinity of the shoreline and the use of archaic fishing methods that limit the fishermen to fishing only in that immediate vicinity.

Over-fishing as well as illegal fishing by large foreign fishing trawlers.

The construction of the dam by the Ghana government to generate electricity that resulted in the lagoon / river virtually drying up.
The ADF has a vision to revamp the fishing industry, create jobs, and improve the quality of life of the people in the community.

3) To foster peace and unity among the people of Atorkor.
