Mama na Dada Africa has many areas in which volunteers, both men and women, can participate:
» Work with Girl Child Forums where girls learn life skills, decison making communication skills, sexual health and self esteem building
» Work with children in a day care
» Facilitate entrepreneurial efforts through micro-credit/micro-enterprises
» Provide home based care and outreach
» Provide counseling
» Work in the clinic
» Educate about health, nutrition, and HIV/AIDS
» Design and implement methods for water collection and filtration, irrigation, solar energy, and other appropriate technology systems
» Work with community members to develop improved methods for agriculture and livestock
» Be involved with arts and crafts
» Document through photography and video
» Provide knowledge of solar food dehydrators, solar ovens, water filters, etc.
» The Memory Box Project: Document oral accounts to capture and preserve cultural and family history for parents who are HIV+. Volunteers interested in this project can read more about it in our Sustainable Village Library.
» Working with the older generation to document the Luo stories, and traditional songs.
» Adult literacy
Additionally, volunteer researchers interested in village culture are needed to prepare reports on:
» The population in the village, by age and gender
» The primary religions practiced
» School dropout and literacy levels, especially among girls
» Barriers to girls' education
» Facts and myths surrounding HIV
» Impact of HIV/AIDS on girls and women
» Vegetable farming through irrigation
» Livestock farming, specifically dairy goat, and how to do zero grazing
