About Pathfinder Academy

In Kenya, innocent children are sieged by forces that conquer and divide them from the joys of childhood.

The Pathfinder Academy was founded in 2002 as a private school to challenge and change myriad assaults to childhood such as poverty, education, nourishment, physical, emotional and social development, which endangers children's welfare and undermines their future.

These perils have shaped Pathfinder Academy to infuse its spirit with courage, curiosity and determination, spurring the formation of cost-effective model programs such as computer, conservation, health, GROW BIOINTENSIVE farming and agroforestry. This brings palpable change and help children, families and the community to reach their full potential through advocacy, compassion and a comprehensive and integrated curriculum. We engage and embrace the school as a family and as a community through the Parents Teachers Association.

The Pathfinder Academy gives all children the opportunity to experience confidence, hope, love and success. Presently the school has over 300 students and three quarters of them are orphans.

Mission

The Pathfinder Academy sees as its mission the provision and advancement of quality education and extracurricular activities, both formal and informal, to children who have been orphaned due to HIV/AIDS and other calamities as a means to counteract pervasive hunger, poverty, and systemic deprivation.

It encourages academic excellence by providing qualified teachers distinguished for their intellectual competence, vitality and professional commitment, and by creating an environment conducive to learning, training, research and the attainment of its wider educational objectives. It provides further opportunities for the development of critical, creative, independent and sound professional habits among the students.

The Pathfinder Academy seeks to promote a lifestyle in harmony with its ideals and creates a framework for the nurturing of moral values among its students through the integration of faith and learning. In addition, the school aims to be of benefit to the wider intellectual and cultural community by preparing students to appreciate humanity, the essence and value of life, the diversity of cultures, as well as a desire to integrate acquired knowledge or sponsorship with service to humanity.

Nature of Knowledge

The school seeks to provide an opportunity for developing proficiency in discovering knowledge that is relevant to life.

The Role of Pathfinder Academy

The Pathfinder Academy is an integral part of society. It has the special function of lifting the vision of society by challenging and motivating its students to develop to the highest possible goals. This is done through programs geared to serve the needs of the community and the general public.

Here, teachers and students engage in community projects. The students are involved in training and extension work in the villages; either preparing gardens for HIV/AIDS infected and affected families or distributing food, seeds and tools.

Physical Facilities

The school has two permanent blocks and three semi-permanent ones, which are not enough to cater for the kids. The school plans to construct more classrooms, cottages (dormitories), a library, clinic and a guesthouse. The most immediate need at school is the provision of water, dining hall and toilets.

Volunteering

We are grateful to the volunteers who have provided their time and energy to support the school. Your support has made a lot of difference in the lives of many orphans.

This is an opportunity to help someone in need and Keeping Hope Alive!
