Volunteer Accommodations

Housing

Volunteers are hosted in the home of one of the association members, which is approximately 1 mile from the association's farm. There are two rooms designated for volunteers. One room is double-occupancy; the other is single-occupancy. All beds have mosquito nets, and the rooms have locks on the doors.

There is a bathroom in the home with a toilet and a large bathtub. There is no water pressure so volunteers should be prepared to bucket bathe in the bathtub.

Meals

All meals are prepared for volunteers at the home. Volunteers who have special dietary needs or food allergies should note their needs on their volunteer application so Village Volunteers can notify the association in advance.

Drinking Water

Purified drinking water is provided for volunteers.

Electricity

There is no electricity, so volunteers are provided with kerosene lanterns at night. Volunteers are also recommended to bring flashlights.

Internet Access

The nearest internet cafe is in Somanya, a 30-minute tro-tro ride away.

Laundry

For $30 USD per month, a volunteer’s laundry (clothing and bed linens) can be done once a week. All volunteers are asked to launder their own undergarments.
