Orphan Care in a Children's Home
Volunteers can work one-on-one with children in
an orphan home: preparing the children for school, walking them
to and from school, assisting with their homework, teaching reading
and math at the orphan home, playing with them, etc. They can
also teach at the local school which the orphans attend and help
with the chores in the orphan home.
Education
Volunteers can teach English, mathematics, science,
French, vocational skills, computer skills, art or music at the
local pre-school, primary or junior high school. They are also
encouraged to develop teaching materials.
Environmental Conservation
This component will include visits to eco-tourist
centers. Although this area is not fully developed as of yet,
there is a desire to develop biological conservation centers based
on research of biological conservation.
Gender Equality and Women Empowerment Development
There are placements for volunteers interested in
gender activities.
Building and Construction
Volunteers interested in the construction of facilities
or classrooms for rural communities are welcome. Such activities
are dependent on funding.
Entrepreneurial Skill Development
Volunteers having special knowledge and skills in
management, manufacturing, and marketing could assist in the private
sectors.
Capacity Building
There are provisions for the attachment of volunteers
to voluntary organizations whose capacity in project management
/ implementation is inadequate. People with knowledge and skills
in areas such as fundraising and proposal development are welcome.
Health Sector
Although there is no limit to activities, the following priority areas will be given attention: malaria, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, nutrition, natural medicine, reproductive health, diabetes, glaucoma, and public health awareness.
At the Have Village medical clinic, volunteers can work in the
following departments: O.P.D., Consulting Room, Dispensary, Maternal
and Child Health clinic/Maternity Ward. Volunteers can also register
new patients and take records.
HIV/AIDS
The mandate and objectives of the Afram Plains District Health Directorate are the following:

Management of the whole district on health issues, including hospitals and clinics / centers, both public and private.

Liaisons with other stakeholders such as line departments, government agencies, the private sector, communities, etc.

Public education and / or the dissemination of information on contagious diseases and their control.

Organization of regular immunizations of children in the district.

Coordination of stakeholder activities in health delivery services.

Monitoring and evaluation of health projects
/ programs in the district.
- Complete statistics on all aspects of diseases in the district.
- Preparation of annual budgets and reports to the Regional Health Directorate.
Microfinance

To provide advice and support in the planning
and commencement of microcredit activities, especially with
regard to selection of pilot areas and operational model implementation.

To provide advice and support in the establishment
of funds in cases where these are regarded as suitable microcredit
delivery models.

To cooperate with and to support any institutions (such as NGOs) that operate microcredit funds on behalf of the project and to monitor their performance and progress.

To advise and support in the establishment of a monitoring system for the microcredit subcomponent.

To follow up, coordinate, troubleshoot, and monitor the implementation of the microcredit subcomponent at all levels.

To assess microcredit-related training needs
of county microcredit staff and villagers in project areas.
- To develop necessary training modules and / or other materials for training microcredit staff and villagers in microcredit-related issues where required and to provide both on-the-job and classroom training, as appropriate (in cooperation with the project manager).
- To provide advice to county microcredit staff and villagers on the identification, design, and implementation of appropriate income-generating / livelihood activities in rural areas and too coordinate with the Project Coordinator Director's staff and technical agencies to provide training and other support where required.
- To support coordination with other project components, especially community development.
- To participate in project meetings and workshops.
