Missahoe Charity Home welcomes child-oriented volunteers to help care for the orphans and bring new ideas for activities
and programs. Volunteers are recommended to stay between two and six weeks.
The following describes typical days for a volunteer.
Monday to Friday
- In the morning, help dress and feed the
children.
- During the day, while the older children
attend school, help care for the younger
children and do household chores.
- In the evening, play games with the children
and help the older ones with their homework.
Weekends
Volunteers are free to travel on the weekends, however, if they remain at Missahoe, they
can participate in the following.
- On Saturdays, wash is done in the morning, and play time is in
the afternoon.
- On Sunday mornings, most of the children
attend mass at a Catholic church. Volunteers are welcome to
attend although they do not have to. Sunday evening is spent
ironing clothes (school uniforms) and checking that all assignments
for the week are done.
School Holidays
When school is out of session, volunteers are invited to coordinate
summer camp type programs.
