Sustainable Agriculture
Development Program Nepal

Sustainable Agriculture Development Program, Nepal (SADP - Nepal) is a non-governmental organization (NGO) and was formally established in 2004. It is headquartered in Lamachaur VDC in Kaski.
SADP - Nepal is committed to enhancing the livelihood of resource-poor farmers through research, development, and the promotion of a sustainable agricultural system in the country.

To achieve its objective, SADP - Nepal emphasizes the partnership and collaboration with farmers, farming communities, academia, and organizations that are committed to working together for community empowerment, adaptive research, and the development of sustainable agriculture.

Objectives

  • To create awareness among the local grass-roots farmers, students, activists, and others about the positive impact of organic agriculture (OA) and other related aspects of OA, such as permaculture and biodynamics.
  • To encourage farmers to utilize local resources and to alert them about the long-term effects of chemical usage on the environment, ecology, human health, and animal welfare.
  • To coordinate with national and international organizations for the growth of OA.
  • To facilitate literacy classes for the illiterate farmers and their families.
  • To encourage farmers to adopt integrated farming systems in order to effect radical changes in the traditional agriculture method.
  • To initiate micro-finance systems among farmers by managing group funding to reduce poverty.
  • To provide training and develop knowledge and skills on sustainable agriculture (SA).
  • To increase food security programs.
  • To encourage people to preserve local seeds and produce organic seeds.

Importance

Currently, conventional farming systems severely neglect the negative impact of hazardous chemicals on human health and nature, yet our organization acknowledges that the ecological environment of the earth is in great danger. We strive for preservation of the environment and its creatures. We believe the only way to maintain ecological balance in nature is through organic farming.

Here are some key principles and reasons why we believe that organic farming is a sustainable solution to our ecological problems:

  • It allows us to grow quality food in a sufficient way.
  • It maintains an interrelationship with nature and our work with it.
  • It encourages micro-organisms, such as insects and weeds, and supports the recycle process.
  • It improves long-term management of soil fertility.
  • It minimizes all types of pollution.
  • It prioritizes the reuse of resources.
  • It provides the minimum required facilities to the birds and animals reared.
  • It promotes bio-diversity and the production system.
  • It establishes a cordial relationship between agricultural production and animal rearing.
