Barchando HIV/AIDS and Poverty Eradication Group

Barchando HIV/AIDS and Poverty Eradication Group is a community-based
organization that was started in June 2001 with the mission
to curb the spread of HIV/AIDS and empower the Barchando community
towards economic sustainability through the use of IEC (information,
education and communication) tools.
The organization envisions a healthy and wealthy community through
the achievement of the following goals:
1. To create awareness on HIV/AIDS and its effect on the individual
and the community, as well as how to control the spread.
2. To provide support for those infected and affected by HIV/AIDS, especially orphans,
vulnerable children and widows.
3. To facilitate the development of sustainable income generating activities
and projects within the community.
4.To promote the development of infrastructure and social facilities within the community.
The Barchando community is located in the Bondo District, approximately
65km from Kisumu in the western part of Kenya. It is composed
of 8 villages and has a population of about 4,800 people.
