Welcome to the Maasai village of Oronkai and Namunyak Maasai Welfare (NMW) in the district of Transmara!

NMW is a Kenyan Non-Governmental Organization founded in June of 2004 to alleviate the harshest conditions of its most marginalized individuals through enabling local access to the following:

  • Education
  • Health care and information
  • Clean water
  • Micro-credit/enterprises
  • Renewable energy
  • Organic farming
  • Namunyak Maasai Welfare's goal is to bring a positive difference to the indigenous Maasai community and their neighbors, on orphans care; education; economic empowerment; natural resource management; and poverty alleviation through sustainable development, micro-credit enterprises and local capacity building.

By focusing on the empowerment of the most Disenfranchised members of society, NMW helps to break the cycle of despair and hopelessness common among the rural poor, and offers palpable solutions to poverty and isolation through a focus on self-empowerment and interdependence.
