The Mama Maria Clinic

The Mama Maria Clinic provides health care through a fully staffed medical facility—offering affordable, localized health care and medicine, plus first aid, nutritional, and HIV/AIDS education to the residents of Muhuru Bay and surrounding communities.

Orphan Feeding Program

School-lunch feeding program for Muhuru Bay orphans, providing them with nutritional support and educational opportunities. Feeding program also employs widows as cooks and project operators.

MMK Goat Program

Mama Maria’s Goat Program provides for the dire and unexpected moments of those who are most in need in the village — widows and orphans. Goats are made available for sudden crisis, particularly medical emergencies that require the use of the Mama Maria ambulance and incurred hospital fees.

Many times, even when transport is available, locals refuse emergency medical care at the hospital due to the fact they simply cannot afford it. A goat to a villager is considered “money in the bank” and can be likened to a $5,000 deposit in rural African terms; a sum most widows have no hope of ever acquiring. Goats are made available by application and opportunities are provided for the needy to earn them.

James Kithene Deaf Scholarship

Deaf children in rural Africa have virtually no hope of receiving an education. Kenyan schooling is often cost-prohibitive for ordinary children, so handicapped kids have little chance of ever making it to school. Mama Maria Kenya is dedicated to providing academic scholarships through facilitating sponsors and deaf children to provide a way for deaf children to go to specialized schools to learn sign language, life skills, and academics.

Public Health Community Outreach

Community health education forums designed to equip the public with facts about HIV/AIDS and promote testing, de-worming, malaria prevention, clean water and sanitation, as well as establishing school clubs geared towards the promotion of health, nutrition, sanitation, and other positive health-related activities.
